Over Two Hundred Years of History
Chiavari chairs are a style, rather than a brand, named after the town in northwest Italy where they were first created. The chairs were designed in 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, who took the decadence of the French Empire style and stripped away all the over-the-top decoration. The result was the Chiavari chair that, aside from a few aesthetic tweaks, has not fundamentally changed in over 200 years of production.
Sturdy and Stylish
Chiavari chairs are specifically designed to be robust and hard-wearing, despite their slender build and appearance. Each component is shaped to accommodate the specific stresses that it is expected to carry during use. This means that a Chiavari chair, whilst it might be constructed from lightweight wood, metal, or plastic, has the strength to hold a considerable weight. What’s more, since the design allows for more slender materials to be used in the chair’s construction, the overall effect is one of elegance and style.
A Range of Styles
While Chiavari might, strictly speaking, be a style of chair, there is still room for some variation of design. We have both straight-backed and curved-back Chiavari chairs, depending on your preference. We also offer our chairs in traditional wood or plastic. Thanks to unique central design, either model provides the same strength and stability for you and your guests.
Dressing up Your Chiavari Chair
Chivari chairs are popular at weddings and other social events. They are lightweight and easy to arrange in a marquee or a venue hall. They are both simplistic in design and stylish in effect. What makes them such a good choice for special occasions is that they are easy to embellish. You can purchase seat pads of a matching or a contrasting colour, depending on the effect you’re going for. With the vertical frame back support, it is a simple matter to attach flowers, ribbons, tassels, balloons, and so many other things.
